For what not add the FREE 7Zip compressor to the program?
Works really good, and compress every file better than another compression metod.

What method (PPMD or DEFAULT) and compression level (1-10) do you use?
Also, there is 'Solid compression' options.
DEFAULT is like ZIP compression.
PPMD is a very good compression (but it is slower).

7zip (LZMA) is not a free algorithm for commercial software.

With same file: 1.64Gb

PPMD (10) : 1.58 Gb (89.31%)
DEFAULT (10) : 1.58 Gb (89.31%)
Winrar (BEST): 1.44 Gb (84%)
7Zip (LZMA) : 988 Mb (58%)
7Zip (LZMA2) : 1.01Gb (60%)

Time to compress:
PPMD (10) : 38 Minutes
DEFAULT (10) : 35 Minutes
Winrar (Best) : 17 Minutes
7Zip (LZMA) : 5 Minutes
7Zip (LZMA2) : 6 Minutes

You compare installer and compression software. For example, compression software can detect the type of the file and use different compression preprocesses. We don't say that our compression the same good as LZMA and WinRAR. Also, it is interesting to look at the output size of this file for ZIP and CAB compression.

Have you compared CreateInstall with other installer software? Not all of other installers use LZMA or WinRAR.
