I am running a software setup built using "CreateInstall Free" - has anyone seen this message:

Run-time error [ 0xC 12 ]: Undefined (empty) command [ 1377 : 561 ] '(null)'

The message appeared in a console32 like window and only occurred on first run on a Win XP SP3 machine. When installer ran second time it went to first setup screen and package installed without issue. I thought a one off was kind of strange.

What version of CreateInstall do you use?
Is it the latest version?

Hi, The question posed is from a user of my shareware program.

I am currently using V 7.0.14 of CI. The error message only seems to appear on XP systems. I have tried the installer on a Win10 system (mine) and it runs fine. On my test XP system (virtual) the error occurs. An immediate retry of the installer works fine on the 2nd attempt.

I will upgrade CI to the latest version and retry, if the error still occurs I will report back and include the .CI file

We fixed like bug some time ago. Try to install the latest version 7.1.3.

OK, I upgraded to the latest version and retried the test on XP again. This time no failure.

But ...

If this is somehow related to a first time running of CI on the system, and even if the 1st time fails, the second attempt works. Maybe this latest test 'worked' only because we had that initial failure with the old version, and it somehow 'self-corrected' what was wrong.

Sorry if the above is worded in a rather convoluted manner. All I'm trying to say is that maybe this test with the new version didn't really test it.

It seems CI must make some permanent change to the system (in the Registry) even when it fails with the error message. Otherwise repeated re-tries would just end up with the same error again.

Please let me know if there's any more info that you need.
